1. The Core Philosophy: Data Sovereignty
WhatNext. is built as a local-first application. Unlike traditional recommendation apps, we do not use a backend, we do not require accounts, and we do not store your taste profile or ratings on our servers. Your data belongs to you, exists only on your device, and stays under your absolute control.
2. Information Collection and Use
The Service Provider (Malachi Nelson) does not collect, see, or sell your ratings, watchlist, or taste profile data.
- Taste Profile & Ratings: 100% of your data — every rating, every watchlist entry, your entire taste vector — is stored locally on your device using on-device SQLite and IndexedDB storage.
- Personally Identifiable Information: The Application does not require an email address, name, or account to function.
- Automatic Collection: Like all mobile apps, basic technical data (device model, OS version) may be collected by the App Stores (Apple/Google) for crash reporting and installation analytics. The Service Provider does not receive or control this data.
3. Third-Party Services
To facilitate the Premium subscription, WhatNext. uses the following third-party providers. Each has their own privacy policy governing their data practices:
- RevenueCat: Used solely to manage your Premium entitlement and verify your subscription status across your own devices. RevenueCat may collect a pseudonymous device identifier for this purpose.
- Apple App Store: For payment processing, installation analytics, and anonymised performance telemetry on iOS devices.
- Google Play Services: For payment processing, installation analytics, and anonymised performance telemetry on Android devices.
The Service Provider does not receive your payment details. All billing is handled directly by Apple or Google.
4. Data Retention & Deletion
We cannot delete your data because we do not have it.
